Nothing better on a Saturday morning than a big cup of Zoegas Julkaffe (a special dark roast coffee only available in Sweden at Christmas-time) and an episode of "Escape to River Cottage." The show stars British celebrity chef (with the impossibly British name) Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, who supposedly chucks big city life in London to live a self-sufficient existence at a rural cottage in Dorset for a year.
The program is part reality TV, part cooking show and part agronomy lesson all wrapped up into a very entertaining and quirky package. I guess it was something of a cult hit in Britain, where is spawned a couple of follow-up series and cookbooks. Not sure how or where my readers in the U.S. might get to see it (strikes me as ideal PBS fare, though), but based on a brief internet search I’m thinking it might be rentable. If you have a chance to see it, by all means do. You won’t be disappointed!
