Never underestimate the restorative power of your mother’s own cooking.
In addition to Chicken & Dumplings, I’ve also been treated to my aunt’s wonderful variation on Polish Noodles & Cabbage, and perfectly seasoned fried eggs over-easy with hot buttered toast. YUM. My appetite seems to have returned with a vengeance, but I can’t say the same for my stamina.
I think I must have been on some kind of adrenaline rush the first few days following the surgery, because while my battered right-eye socket continues to feel (and look) better each day…my energy level has taken a huge hit over the last couple days. I found this out on Monday afternoon when my Mom and I ventured out to run a few simple errands.
After four days of being relatively sedentary and sleeping close to 10 hours a night, I thought I was ready for a short outing…just a nice walk with two short stops for sewing supplies and groceries. We were gone for a grand total of 90 minutes, and it completely kicked my @$$. I guess healing from a surgery takes more energy than I remembered.
Speaking of healing, the eye is no longer black…primarily because the bruise is changing colours and migrating down the right side of my face. And the socket is itching in places that I can’t scratch and it’s driving me crazy!
