Today marked the first really warm spring day we've had in weeks, and since building rules don't allow is to grill on the balcony of The Penthouse Nordic, we did the next best thing…bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches.
Dr. Darling and I have their preparation down to a highly choreographed science. I fry the bacon while the Swede slices tomatoes and washes the lettuce. We then take turns toasting the bread (our two-slice toaster requires a certain amount of supervision) and assembling the sandwiches…with generous amounts of imported Miracle Whip, of course.
But in spite of the speed and efficiency with which we can produce them, we ALWAYS end up wolfing them down at the kitchen counter before we can even get them on to a plate. They're JUST. THAT. GOOD.
Dr. Darling looked over my shoulder as I was writing this entry and asked if I had taken the picture above.
"Are you kidding me? We ate them as fast as we made them. When would I have had time to take a picture?"
"Oh yeah, that's right. Besides, you would have had to drop your drawers in order to do it and I think I would have noticed that."
