New Zealand seals marriage equality vote with a song

The gallery observing the New Zealand Parliament‘s vote to expand the country’s definition of marriage to include same-sex couples serenaded lawmakers when the results were announced. Turns out harmony runs pretty deep down there.

I’ve since learned that the song is Pokarekare Ana, a “traditional New Zealand Maori love song” and the nation’s unofficial national anthem. How utterly and thoroughly appropriate.
