I have this vague idea that I’m not supposed to like Ariana Grande.
A quick glance of her Wikipedia entry shows she was a child star on Broadway and then a Nickelodeon TV series. She’s released a couple of album that have done pretty well in the U.S. I also remember hearing something about an incident in doughnut shop that was not very flattering.
But the few times I’ve actually seen her perform, I’ve been nothing but impressed. The first time was a duet with Miley Cyrus to benefit her foundation for LGBT youth. Of course it helped that the song was cover of Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream it’s Over.”
Then a little over a week ago I saw Ariana do the “Wheel of Musical Impressions” bit on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve watched it. Her Britney Spears is spot-on and her Christina Aguilera is amazing … but her Celine Dion is the piece de la resistance, if you’ll pardon my French.
That’s some serious talent right there. And I have no idea how Jimmy managed to keep it together enough to join her as Sting.
